BIOGRAPHY

Matthew Pawlowski

"Composing is my passion.  It's something I'd never give up...except for Angus.  Nothing gets between me and my cat."

Though I've only composed for the past six and a half years, I have been falling in love with music and sound my whole life...

It all started when I was six, just as I began learning to play piano at my small, now sadly non-existent elementary school.  I was no savant at that age; my parents weren't taking videos of me plunking out "The Maple Leaf Rag" or a Rachmaninoff piece after a simple glance at sheet music. No, my musical upbringing was just about as unglamorous as it could possibly get, so much so that the great abundance of memories I have left of that time ran along the same thread: spend tens of minutes on a single measure of "C is for Cookie", completely fail to play it even after all that time, then have a mental break down and retreat to the warm comfort of whatever Spongebob episode was on at the time.  It even got to the point where, at the start of third grade, I flat out refused to continue on.  Instead of forcing me to go on, though, my father let me drop it, suggesting I think about it again when at the end of the year.

And sure enough, for a reason I have either forgotten or yet to figure out, I came back at the start of the next year. That decision is why this website exists, why all the songs I've written which are and aren't on it exists, why I applied and got accepted into Berklee College of Music a couple days ago and why I am fighting to find the money go there, why I stop and wonder at night between the cusp of dreams and reality what my life would be like writing music for a living and giving life to things which wouldn't have existed without me.  That decision, to carry on playing piano, quite literally made me who I am today.  Too often it seems I dwell on the mistakes of my past, but that is the one decision for which I will forever be grateful to my past self.

Way ta' go, me.

Of course, now the easy part has come and gone.  The hard part, staying true to my past decision to carry on with music and my recent decision to use that skill to compose, has only just begun.  Look through my music.  If anything catches your interest for a project you're working on, please do not hesitate to message me.
